Sarajevo Lawyer Vasvija Vidovic sentenced to Prison

Sarajevo lawyer Vasvija Vidović, after a renewed trial for preventing evidence, was sentenced to six months in prison on Tuesday.

Let us remind you that the trial of Vasvija Vidović was renewed after the first-instance verdict from February last year, which sentenced her to one year in prison for hiding the mobile phone of the suspended President of the Court of BiH Ranko Debevac, who was arrested in December 2023 for abuse of office, was annulled.

In its closing statement, the Prosecution assessed that it had proved that Vidović, in her capacity as a defense attorney, had committed the crime of “preventing evidence”, despite the fact that the Appellate Panel marked part of the evidence as illegal in the decision on the annulment of the first-instance verdict.

In its closing statement, the defense stated what other evidence it considers illegal, apart from those listed in the decision of the Appellate Panel. As lawyer Nina Karačić said, the deprivation of liberty was also illegal, because it was carried out for an act for which no order was issued.

The indictment states that on December 18, 2023, after Debevec was arrested on suspicion of abuse of office and falsification of an official document, Vidović invited her to represent him as a defense attorney, and in a special room of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), he took out a cell phone from his bag and handed it to her.
