The mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karic, organized a traditional New Year’s meeting with journalists in the Sarajevo City Hall, where she summarized what was done in 2023, but also announced the projects they plan to implement during the next year.

She pointed out that despite their modest powers and budget, they work hard every day, driven by energy and love for this city.

Karic emphasized that their dedication to the renovation of old and the construction of new playgrounds and kindergartens is unquestionable.

“With the reconstruction of the completely devastated kindergartens ‘Kolibri’ in Kolodvorska Street, ‘Agan Bostandzic’ in Sirokaca, and business premises in Dobrinja, after three decades, we will finally return them to the children. I would like to emphasize that the total value of the renovation project of the “Kolibri” kindergarten is 2.800.000 BAM, of which the City of Sarajevo allocates 1.750.000 BAM, and by obtaining a building permit from the Municipality of Stari Grad, the conditions have been met to start the reconstruction of the “Agan Bostandzic” kindergarten. These projects are another example of the excellent cooperation of the City of Sarajevo with the Canton and the city’s municipalities and a confirmation of how we should work together for the good of all of us, especially the youngest,” said the Mayor of Sarajevo.

She also touched on the Trebevic Astronomical Observatory, stating that it is one of those projects that requires an extensive procedure.

“The completed studies showed that the project is worth the investment of public money and represents a promising scientific and tourist potential. A lot of time was spent on resolving property and legal relations; the conceptual design is completed; and recently we met with the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Mr. Irfan Cengic, and we agreed to cooperate on the reconstruction of the Bistrik Tower on Trebevic, as an essential part of the Astronomical Observatory. The City of Sarajevo and the Stari Grad in the coming period are jointly planning the implementation of the Viewpoint project on the Spicasta stijena and a new adrenaline attraction – the zip line,” said Karic.

– New Year’s Eve –

She pointed out that the preparations for the public New Year’s celebration in front of the Eternal Flame with the performance of “Crvena jabuka”, “Zabranjeno pusenje”, “Bombaj Stampa” and Laka and Lela are proceeding according to plan.

“I am sure that Sarajevo will once again be the epicenter of great fun. Everyone is welcome to the Sarajevo party, as well as to visit a city that really has a lot to offer. Come and make new beautiful memories together. This wonderful ‘Sarajevo story’ will be a great introduction to the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Sarajevo Olympics, which represents one of the most important chapters in the rich history of the BiH capital,” Karic concluded.
