Mayor Benjamina Karić today presented the Certificate of Appreciation of the City of Sarajevo to the brave members of the CZ Cantonal Administration and the KS Professional Fire Department – Second Platoon. Muhamed Duran, who together with his colleagues saved a two-year-old child from the window of the sixth floor of a building in Grbavica, received the certificate of appreciation.

The incredibly quick and brave reaction of the firefighters prevented a possible tragedy.

“I am proud of their selfless dedication to work. I want to thank the neighbors who called the fire department and showed for the umpteenth time that a neighbor is like a family,” said Mayor Karić.

She said that as a mother of a small child, she was shaken by the information that a single mother was forced to leave her children in order to work, and called on the competent institutions to help this family together with the City of Sarajevo.

A woman who was in the park near the building where everything was happening, saw a child standing on the outside of the window on the 6th floor. She immediately called the police and an ambulance.

Police officers, firefighters and the emergency team quickly arrived at the scene. The child was standing at the window of the 6th floor. When they broke into the apartment, there was a shock because his four-year-old sister was also there. They were alone in the apartment. The mother was arrested.
