Today, Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid al-Adha, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina the tradition of preparing and baking baklava on this holiday has been preserved. In the spirit of today’s day and custom, baklava was shared in Sarajevo by the mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić.

Since she assumed the position of mayor, Karić has tried to follow the tradition as it is represented in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the celebration of Eid al-Adha or Ramadan Eid.

It was the same today when she shared this favorite delicacy with passers-by, the elderly and the youngest citizens in Baščaršija.

“Celebrating Bajram means sharing joy with loved ones! That’s why I spend the day with you, my fellow citizens, in the old town core of our Sarajevo! Baščaršijski square smells of baklava, of love, togetherness and charity. I wish from the bottom of my heart that everything in life is accompanied by health, success and happiness. Bajram barecula!”, said Karić.

Earlier today, the mayor sent a congratulatory message to all Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, wishing them to spend it in good health and good mood, sharing joy with their relatives, neighbors and friends.

“I want this holiday of pilgrimage, sacrifice, giving and family togetherness to strengthen our faith in good and true values. Be healthy, happy and in peace,” she also said.
