The mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, provided public support to the Croatian singer Severina, after she came into conflict with the authorities in Serbia.

Severina was detained for several hours at the border between Croatia and Serbia, and she pointed out that she was asked about her views on Srebrenica, the Storm, Franjo Tuđman, and why she supports the protests in this country.

Karić announced on her X profile that Severina “once again proved her courage and steadfastness in positions that are correct, clear and firm”, and she supported her.

“As the mayor of Sarajevo, a city that has always been on the side of the truth, I give her my full support in the fight for truth and justice, in her resistance against the authoritarian regime that oppresses its citizens and the entire region,” Karić announced.

The mayor of Sarajevo also invited all citizens of Serbia and other countries of the region to come to Sarajevo for the New Year, when Severina will perform.

“Together we can and must build a society that does not tolerate injustice and oppression. Welcome Seve and welcome dear people,” wrote Benjamina Karić.
