“Sarajevo Rose”, one of the memorial symbols of the killed citizens of Sarajevo during the siege of the city in the period from 1992 to 1995, was finally restored in Ferhadija Street.
“The works on restoration were completed before the anniversary of the killing of citizens of Sarajevo on this street. We had to make a replica of “Sarajevo Rose” on new panels that were specially prepared for this project, since the former panels, as well as previously marked craters from grenades, were destroyed,” said Minister for Veteran Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Muharem Fiso.
“The” Sarajevo Rose” on Markale, whose restoration is planned for this year as well, requires special approach, and we prepared a special project that was approved by the Institute,” stated Minister Fiso.
“We will not allow these symbols of defence, heroism and the suffering of citizens of Sarajevo to fall into oblivion,” stated Minister Fiso.
The “Sarajevo Roses” were created in asphalt and pavements of streets as a result of the shelling of the city of Sarajevo.
After the defensive-liberation war, they were filled with a red mass that symbolizes the blood of the killed children and citizens of Sarajevo, and the name “Sarajevo Roses” was given due to their resemblance with torn rose petals.
