The citizens of Sarajevo might soon ride in trams donated by the company HTM, a tram transporter in Hague.
Vesna Stevovič, project manager in the company Metropolregio Rotterdam Den Haag revealed that there are still no concrete agreements on details of the donation, but that the contact between HTM and the Government of the Sarajevo Canton has been established for now.
“The story began several months ago when one of the HTM managers stayed in Sarajevo. Upon return, he was telling how he liked Sarajevo very much, but that he was taken by surprise when he saw in which condition is the public transportation in Sarajevo, referring to trams. Since I recently read that Sarajevo just got the GTL8 trams from Turkey, an idea was born,” Stevović said.
Stevović explained that HTM is just replacing its GTL8 trams with low floor trams, so that several GTL8 trams might go to Sarajevo.
“We managed to establish contact with the Government of the Sarajevo Canton, with the minister and the staff at the Ministry of Transportation of the Sarajevo Canton and so far we know that the trams fit and that they are desirable. Details and conditions of the donation have to be discussed afterwards,” Stevović said.
The Ministry of Transportation of the Sarajevo Canton confirmed that contact with the Dutch donors has been established and that more information will be available to the public soon.
