On yesterday’s day, February 1st, 561 years ago, the legalization and legal verification of the act of issuing the endowment of Isa-bey Ishakovic as a legal act officially transferred the property of the founder of Sarajevo from private to public property for the benefit of all people.

That act, which is nothing more than a kind of founding act of Sarajevo, took place in the month of Jumada al-Awwal in 866 AD, i.e. from February 1st to March 2nd, 1462 according to the Gregorian calendar, and is considered an official document that testifies to the beginning of the new city, i.e. an urban entity that is continuously developing to the present day.

On this occasion, the Association for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) “Isa-beg Ishakovic” congratulates all citizens of Sarajevo and BiH on the 561st anniversary of the writing of the endowment of Isa-beyIshakovic with a message that, without diminishing the importance of important dates in the recent history of the capital of BiH, that very date, i.e. February 1st, should be included in the City’s calendar and taken as the official “Foundation Day of Sarajevo”.

”Precisely because of this act, Sarajevo is unique because it is the first city in BiH that was planned and purposefully created in this way and which can precisely determine its beginning as an urban entity, and later there will be more similar cities that will be formed according to according to the same principle,” it is stated.

On the occasion of marking that significant date, the Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of BiH “Isa-beg Ishakovic” will (together with its partner Public CompanyMuseum of Sarajevo) organize an exhibition entitled “The Founder”. The exhibition will be opened in Brusa Bezistan, in the second half of this month.

”The exhibition, in 15 panels and five cubes with objects from that period, will tell the story of the urban beginnings and the creation of Sarajevo. The exhibition will present, in a picturesque way, how the development of the city shaped people’s lives and how the architecture experienced a change, that is, how it was planned to achieve harmony, functionality and to respect the rights of the other and the different. As part of the exhibition, a model of “Trgovka” street, which was built by Isa-bey‘s son and was also endowed, will be placed,” the Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of BiH “Isa-beg Ishakovic” announced.
