Sarajevo’s Romeo and Juliet: A Red Rose on the Grave as a Symbol of Great Love

boskoadmiraAt the grave of Admira Ismić and Boško Brkić, couple that got killed by sniper shots while trying to get out of besieged Sarajevo on today’s day in 1993, today were left red roses as a symbol of their great love.

Family members stopped coming long time ago, but many tourists who want to pay tribute to the Sarajevo’s Romeo and Juliet leave fresh flowers on their grave.

Picture of embraced Boško and Admira represents a symbol of their great love, and one of the symbols of Sarajevo that was always compound of diversity of nations, cultures and religions as well as co-existence and humanity.

For years, their grave is visited by tourists who learned of such a love story in the media, as they said from KJKP “Burial”. There is less and less of Sarajevo citizens, and they are slowly falling in oblivion.

boskoadmira2Admira and Boško, a girl and a young man of different faith, did not know about the difference, they dreamed about living together, believing that they will never be apart. They loved each other under the sky of Sarajevo, believing that humanity, kindness and love can conquer war, hatred, and all the evil that was looming over Sarajevo. However, the worst happened but they went to death together …
