Sattler: Instead of making Progress, BiH has regressed on the Path to the EU

Instead of making progress, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has fallen behind on the path to European integration. Arguments for this are the non-adoption of the Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) of BiH, the Law on the Prevention of Conflicts of Interest, and the Law on Public Procurement.

Although a priority for gaining candidate status, they are proof of the real situation and the lack of political will to take a step on that path.

Attacks on judicial institutions, reforms, and slow processes are all arguments of regression, said the head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to BiH, Johann Sattler, from the third public debate, the Right to Justice.

”Without the existence of an appropriate legislative framework, there is no adequate fight against corruption, and the Law on Conflict of Interest enables just that. These are questions that are the alpha and omega of the accession process without which there is no progress on the European path. This is a waste of time. Elections will be held this year, processes are continuing, and I assure you that our demands remain after that period,”Sattler stated.
