At today’s session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, the agenda is to vote on the new Government. The new majority consists of Our Party, SDP, Narod i Pravda, For New Generations and independent representatives Redžo Lemezan and Admela Hodžić. Mandate for Prime Minister is Nihad Uk, who presented the exposé.
Uk put a special emphasis on young people and mentioned part of what the CS Government has done in this regard so far.
“The government allocated five and a half million BAM to help young people buy an apartment; we provided free textbooks for all primary school students in the Sarajevo Canton, as well as free tickets for public city transport for all students and pupils. We laid the foundation stone and started work on to the construction of the University Library, which will be a symbol of our aspirations for Sarajevo to show its regional and European ambition when it comes to education,” said Uk.
He emphasized that all the tendencies of the Government must be guided by the vision of Sarajevo as a European metropolis.
“With visionary thinking, we need to restore self-confidence and faith in our citizens to reflect and experience Sarajevo in this way. There are numerous projects that direct us on that path, I will list only a few: we finished the reconstruction of the railway and started a new branch towards Hrasnica; we launched subsidies for the opening of new airlines to Sarajevo, while the effects of the subsidies will be felt by our citizens and the economy already next year; we returned our own income to our cultural institutions, providing them with more stable financing, but more importantly,” motivating them to produce world-class cultural content, for which we are already recognized,” explained Uk in his exposition.
The new Government, said Uk, will continue in accordance with the guidelines that were presented during its formation, and some of the priorities are: As for the priorities, they are: continuation of the transformation of public transport; additional incentives for solving the housing issue of young people; the opening of business zones and the construction of a modern university campus.
There are two points in Uk’s exposé in which he emphasized what was not in accordance with his wishes so far and promised to make improvements in those areas. The first is the synergy in the current composition of the Government:
“The connection we had within the Government and the parliamentary majority loosened in some places and broke over time. Hence the need for the reconstruction of the Government. I am convinced that the new convocation will show the highest level of awareness of the importance of united action on priority matters for our Canton”, said Uk.
Another thing is the cleanliness of the streets:
“It is a segment of our activities where, unfortunately, so far we have not had the results that I insist on. The streets of Sarajevo and other places in Canton should and must be the face of our city. The attitude towards trash and waste must begin to change,” he concluded in his exposition.
