Scandal: José Mourinho knocks down Galatasaray’s Okan Buruk

In a dramatic and controversial turn of events, Fenerbahçe head coach José Mourinho physically assaulted his Galatasaray counterpart, Okan Buruk, following their heated Turkish Cup quarter-final match on today. The game, which saw Galatasaray emerge victorious with a 2-1 win, was marred by tensions that spilled over onto the pitch, culminating in an altercation between the two coaching staff members.

As the final whistle blew, signaling Galatasaray’s advancement to the semi-finals, Mourinho was seen confronting Buruk, striking him in the nose. The confrontation escalated, prompting security forces to step in and separate the two sides. This incident comes at a time of heightened rivalry between the two teams, with Fenerbahçe’s hopes of securing silverware this season further dashed.

The match itself was a tense affair. Galatasaray took the lead in the 10th minute with a goal from Victor Osimhen. Fenerbahçe equalized in the 27th minute with a penalty from Osimhen, who was also the culprit for the foul. However, just before halftime, Szymanski put Galatasaray ahead once more, scoring in the second minute of injury time off an assist from Talisca.

In the second half, despite Fenerbahçe’s persistent efforts, they were unable to level the score, and Galatasaray secured the win, advancing to the next stage of the competition.

Edin Džeko, who replaced Youssef En Nesyri in the 75th minute, was unable to make an impact in the closing stages, as Fenerbahçe continued their fruitless pursuit of an equalizer.

Adding to the controversy, referee Aydın sent off three players during stoppage time after a clash between the benches. Two Galatasaray players, Yandas and Yılmaz, and one Fenerbahçe player, Demirbay, were all shown red cards for their involvement.

This defeat marks Fenerbahçe’s second loss to Galatasaray this season, further distancing them from their rivals in the race for the Turkish Süper Lig title. With only eight rounds remaining, Fenerbahçe trail by six points, leaving them with little hope of reclaiming the championship.
