High Representative Christian Schmidt thanked the members of the Federal Parliament for the invitation and informed them that he could not address the session due to his earlier obligations.
Today, the agenda of the session of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was expanded by an item concerning the planned decisions of the High Representative Christian Schmidt regarding the electoral reform.
The SDA Deputies’ Club asked the Speaker of the Chamber, Mirsad Zaimovic, to send an invitation to Schmidt with the request that he address the deputies at the two-day session, which is in progress, and explain the information that has appeared in the public in the last few days, regarding the changes to the FBiH Constitution and the imposition of the BiH Election Law.
Zaimovic did so and sent Schmidt an invitation to attend the meeting or to make a written statement about his plans. He gave the answer he received today at the session.
“They called from Mr. Schmidt’s office. They received the invitation, duly received it. Respecting the importance of parliament, Mr. Schmidt is well aware of the importance of parliament in a country, he himself was a parliamentarian, but due to the circumstances related to this case and other obligations that had, he will not be able to come to the Parliament session tomorrow at the time he was invited. So he cannot come tomorrow. He expressed his willingness to cooperate on another occasion. That is one diplomatic answer we received. Of course, the OHR is monitoring the development of the situation and what we do. We received a polite and diplomatic answer,” said Zaimovic.
The public has been expecting answers and any explanation from the High Representative since last week about the draft amendments to the electoral law that he prepared. But Schmidt avoids going public with precise information and allows various speculations, Klix.ba writes.
