Scorpions Sign Bosnian Striker Adin Džafić

Head Coach Tim Hankinson, who coached the Scorpions to the 2012 NASL regular-season championship in the team’s first year of competition, said a Scorpions open tryout Saturday, Jan. 26, at the South Texas Area Regional (STAR) Soccer Complex will move the team one step closer to the opening of training camp March 1.

“We’re currently looking at a lot of talented players so we can field another very competitive team,” Hankinson said.  “We’ve already signed a couple of mainstays from last season’s squad, midfielders Walter Ramirez and Kevin Harmse.

“And we’ve just signed Adin Džafić, a 6-foot, 2-inch centre forward/winger from Bosnia.  Adin has competed for first-division teams in both Croatia and Bosnia, so we’re delighted to add an experienced player of his calibre to our roster.”

The Scorpions’ first match will come on the road April 6 against the NSC Minnesota Stars, while the home opener is set for April 13 against the NASL playoff champions, the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

“We’ve got our work cut out for us,” Hankinson said, “but competing in front of our dedicated fans in our beautiful new Toyota Field home will certainly give us an extra boost.”

Edin Husić, another BiH football player plays for this club.
