Security Minister says Bosnia and Herzegovina is on the Cocaine Route

Bosnia and Herzegovina is on the cocaine route, the Minister of Security in the Council of Ministers, Nenad Nešić, confirmed today.

“The fact is that BiH has become a transit area for narcotics, and a smaller part stops and stays here,” Nešić emphasized.

Nešić pointed out that the security structures in BiH are ready to stop that route together and to turn it to some other countries.

This, he added, is evidenced by the discovered and seized amounts of cocaine, recalling that SIPA seized 269 kilograms of cocaine this year, which came via the ports of Ploče, Rijeka and Kopar from South America.

“We know where they come from and what is very important is that we are ready to react, to use repression and to completely stop that route of narcotics through BiH. This is the commitment of Sipa and all security agencies at the level of BiH and entities,” said Nešić.

He added that he will make an extra effort to break that road and that he is ready to cooperate with all countries in the region and international partners with that goal.

Nešić added that, at a recent meeting in Vienna, the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) expressed its willingness to help BiH in preventing drug trafficking.
