Serbia is rapidly siphoning Energy from BiH

In 11 months of this year, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)exported eight times more brown coal to Serbia than it did two years ago. As much as 90 percent of the export of electricity from Republika Srpska (RS) goes to Serbia, as well as the entire amount of crude oil that is “experimentally” extracted from our wells.

According to the data of the BiH Indirect Taxation Administration, the export of coal, electricity and even oil to Serbia, which exploded last year in the wake of the energy crisis, continued with even greater intensity this year.

Thus, in 11 months of this year, the export of coal has already overtaken the export for the entire year 2022 by 13 million BAM and has continued to grow.

Since the beginning of this year, more than 151,931,000 BAMworth of brown coal has gone to Serbia from BiH, during the whole of last year, 138,758,000 BAM worth of this energy source was exported to this country.

For the sake of comparison, in 2021, BiH exported “only” 18.6 million BAM worth of coal to Serbia, and the export from the year before “revolved” around the same number.

The demand for coal in Serbia exploded during 2022, when the president of this country, Aleksandar Vucic, pointed out through the media that their needs are huge, that they lack four million tons and that they will buy all the surplus where they find it.

After that, the export of coal to Serbia devastated the mines in BiH so much that citizens had to wait until the end of October for firewood for their households, whether it was high-calorie brown coal for central heating or stone for ordinary stoves, and they paid twice as much for it i.e. over 220 BAM, unlike previous years when it cost up to 125 BAM.

Coal is also exported to other countries, such as France, Hungary, Croatia, Montenegro and Macedonia, Albania and Germany, but the quantities sold there are negligible compared to those going to Serbia, Biznis Info writes.
