Sevdalinka could be protected by UNESCO?

sevdalinkaSevdalinka (Bosnian traditional song) could become protected by UNESCO.

Representatives of the Association of Musical Artists Tuzla, during a meeting in the City Administration, informed the Mayor of Tuzla, Jasmin Imamovic, on realized activities regarding the nomination of sevdalinka for inscription on UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.

Members of the Association, in cooperation with Vesna Isabegovic, graduate ethnologist in the Museum of Eastern Bosnia, filed the initiative of the State Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO and the nomination of sevdalinka as intangible cultural heritage of national importance and for inscription on UNESCO list of intangible heritage.

Mayor of Tuzla, Jasmin Imamovic, congratulated the members of the Association of Musical Artists Tuzla on the overall activities carried out in order to preserve sevdalinka, as one of the most important intangible assets of the cultural heritage of BiH.

“In order for a cultural asset to be accepted by UNESCO, it is important to be nourished as part of the existing cultural heritage, and thanks to the Association of Musical Artists Tuzla and the Festival of sevdalinka, which has been organized in Tuzla for almost ten years, one of the most important conditions is fulfilled and I want to congratulate you on that,” said the Mayor of Tuzla.

During the meeting was discussed the organization of the 9th Festival of Sevdalinka, which will be held in April 2017 in Tuzla.
