Seventy five Coal Miners refuse to Exit the Pit, their Lives are in Danger

Seventy five coal miners from Stranjani Coal Mine (RMU) in Zenica have been staying in the pit for more than 24 hours, from which they do not want  to exit, Smajo Doglod, on behalf of the Trade Union, confirmed to Avaz newspapers.

“It is not true what some media reports wrote that the miners came out of the pit. The director, too, is not telling the truth. No one left the pit. People are still there, ”Doglod says.

Around 150 miners first stopped production on Monday because of fears of liquidation of the company, and then half of them, about 75, went down to the pit early on Tuesday and refused to leave.

Because of the low temperatures in Zenica, the miners in the plant are trying to warm up with hot drinks. This came after it was announced that this facility was planned to be shut down and that Elektroprivreda BiH no longer plans to invest in Stranjani.

Namely, it has been decided that the miners of this pit should be reassigned to the Stara Jama and Raspotocje, however, with this decision, the miners do not want to reconcile.

They believe that there is still coal in Stranjani pit, which, they claim, is of the highest quality, and that someone consciously wants to shut them down in order to cover up the large investments and losses made in the Raspotocje.
