SIPA detained Several Persons suspected of Committing Genocide in Srebrenica

Police officers of the State Agency for Investigation and Protection – SIPA, by order of the prosecutor from the Special Department for War Crimes, in the area of Zvornik, Šeković, Han Pijesak, Vlasenica and Bileća, detained today several persons suspected of the crime of genocide, committed in July 1995, after the fall of the UN Protected Zone of Srebrenica.

Former commanders and members of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) are suspected, and they are accused of participating in the capture and murder of around 70 victims, men and boys of Bosniak nationality, as well as one woman, on July 15, 19 and 23, 1995, at the location of Jarovlje in Vlasenica and two locations in the Bišine-Šekovići area, after which they organized mechanization and carried out activities to remove the bodies of the murdered.

The suspects are charged with the crime of genocide under Article 171 of the CC of BiH. The BiH Prosecutor’s Office and partner police agencies continue their activities with the aim of identifying other persons who participated in the commission of these crimes.

Suspects deprived of their liberty will be brought to the acting prosecutor, who after questioning the suspects will decide on further activities in the case, announced the BiH Prosecutor’s Office.
