Out of these imported vehicles, a total of 5,510 new passenger motor vehicles were imported, with a total value of 175 million BAM, while 56,296 used vehicles were imported with a total value of 340 million BAM.

“When it comes to the type of vehicles that are imported, Volkswagen vehicles are imported the most, followed by Opel, Renault, Citroen, Ford …” said Ratko Kovacevic, a spokesman for ITA.

Citizens gave hundreds of thousands of BAMs for limousines

The state, based on import and collected taxes in the last year, earned a total of 95.5 million BAM.

Among the vehicles that were imported in B&H during 2015, the most expensive ones were following:

  1. Bentley Continental GT V8S (paid 310,797 BAM)
  2. Mercedes Benz S63 AMG Coupe (293,704 BAM)
  3. Bentley Continental (246,720 BAM)
  4. Porsche Carrera (235,828 BAM)
  5. Porsche Cayenne (228,736 BAM)
  6. Porsche (227,776 BAM).

From the import of these six luxury vehicles, the state earned 262,835 BAM.

Kovacevic explained that, from 2013, customs duty are not paid for imports of used passenger motor vehicles from the EU, but only the VAT in the amount of 17 %, unless the importer proves that it is a vehicle that has its origin in some of the EU member states.

“Origin is proved by an invoice declaration or form EUR 1. According to the trade part of the Stabilization and Association Agreement of BiH with the EU, customs on used motor vehicles from the EU were gradually abolished in the period from 2008 to 2013, while the custom duties for new vehicles from the EU were abolished at the beginning of 2009, “said Kovacevic.

How to import a car from abroad?

When the vehicle is imported in the customs territory of BiH, it gets declared at the border crossing, and gain transit customs declaration for a period of 10 days. In the mentioned period of time, the importer must have an approval of the vehicle at one of the authorized technical services in BiH.

“Then you have to get to the relevant customs office in BiH, where customs clearance of the vehicle is being performed. When the vehicle is cleared and import duties are paid, the same can be registered with the competent Ministry” said Kovacevic.
