Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob said on Tuesday that his country will allocate an additional 2.5 million euros to help Palestine through various United Nations (UN) programs.

Golob said that the resolution on Gaza adopted by the UN Security Council on Monday gives hope for a two-state solution.

He said this on the sidelines of a conference on humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip in Jordan after the Security Council adopted a resolution for a cease-fire in Gaza. Russia abstained during the vote, while the remaining 14 Council members voted in favor.

In the meantime, Golob met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Jordan, with whom he discussed the latest developments in Palestine.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Abbas met with Golob in Amman and that the Palestinian president thanked him for recognizing Palestine as a state.

“The decision to recognize a Palestinian state will contribute to preserving the two-state solution, which has been systematically destroyed, and will contribute to ensuring security, peace and stability for all,” Abbas said.

Golob said that his country supports the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and emphasized that Palestinians have the right to self-determination and the creation of an independent state on their land.

He emphasized the need to establish a truce in the Gaza Strip and send humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, AA writes.
