During the night between Sunday and Monday, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) experienced new snowfall. Meteorologists had urged caution, noting that the snowfall would be more significant compared to recent days.
“At lower altitudes, we expect up to 20 cm of fresh snow and snow cover during the night, while the mountains could see as much as 50 cm of new snow. This means the snowfall will be more serious. Along with the snow, we anticipate low temperatures and increased wind speeds,” meteorologist Bakir Krajinovic said yesterday, adding that the snowfall would not approach record levels:
“For December, a snow cover of 80 cm is the record for Sarajevo. What we expect is 20 cm. However, with low temperatures, wind, and the fact that this winter has spoiled us with very little snow, this snowfall will feel quite significant. There is no need for fear or panic, but we must remain cautious and aware of everything happening around us regarding the weather. Ice and snow cover on roads and sidewalks will further worsen the situation,” Krajinovic concluded.
Public utility company “Rad” reported that their teams were on standby and that during snowfall, they focused primarily on clearing the city’s main roads. Citizens are advised to be extra cautious due to slippery sidewalks and the potential for icicles and snow falling from rooftops and trees.
In the coming days, temperatures in Bosnia will range from -6 to -1 degrees Celsius, while in Herzegovina, they will range from -1 to 4 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures in Bosnia will not exceed 7 degrees, while in Herzegovina, they will peak at 9 degrees Celsius.
