”Fireworks and iconography, along with the inevitable glorification of life-sentenced war criminal Ratko Mladic, which marked the unconstitutional day of Republika Srpska (RS) in Foca on Saturday night, are a clear message to Foca Bosniaks, ” stated the only Bosniak councilor in the Assembly of Foca Municipality, Izet Spahic.
Although upset, the returnees in that city, as he mentioned, were not surprised by the scenes they are used to living with.
”The celebration with the inevitable image of the life-sentenced executioner and criminal Ratko Mladic is a clear message that we understood well, which shows that those who celebrated last night are proud of the one under whose command the Drina was bloody. This is a message that a repeat of 1992 is wanted, because how else to understand last night’s celebration of the Serbs from Foca. Although the Constitutional Court banned the marking of January 9th, and the Criminal Code passed by High Representative Valentin Inzko also prohibited denial of genocide and glorification of convicted war criminals, which is a criminal act, both acts happened in Foca last night, ” Spahic pointed out yesterday.
Also, he stressed that he supports the vice president of the RS entity, Ramiz Salkic, who asks the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to prosecute the organizers of such events, and pointed out that he was ready to file criminal charges against the organizers.
”If those to whom it is an obligation and who are paid by the state do not do that, I am personally ready to file a criminal complaint. The organization is institutional and municipal and police structures are the main ideological, technical, and logistical support, regardless of the fact that it is presented in public that they are the organizers of a group of fans, just as NGOs have the right to break the law, ” Spahic told.
The fan group “Delije” Foca has traditionally placed a canvas icon of St. Stephen, about thirty meters long, on the largest residential building in Foca, “Plavi neboder”, with which they replaced the previous one. On January 9th, on Square in Foca, ”Crvena Zvezda” fans organized fireworks with a torchlight, which is the way they have been doing it for five years. An indispensable part of the decor this time as well were pictures of Ratko Mladic, a convicted war criminal, as well as disturbing messages and insulting banners.
