Spending on Black Friday in BiH: Traffic in FBiH amounted to 346 Million BAM and in the RS 27 Million BAM

In stores across Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the so-called Black Friday was marked last Friday, a day when products and services are significantly discounted, which caused a real frenzy among customers around the world. We checked how much the citizens of our country spent.

Increased sales means increased turnover and income of companies, but also filling the state coffers from taxes.

Last Friday, November 24th, the tax administrations of the Federation of BiH (FBiH) and Republika Srpska (RS) recorded a higher turnover than on other days of the year. In the FBiH, a new record was set, while in the RS they cannot boast of the result.

According to the data of the Tax Administration of the FBiH, on November 24th, on Black Friday in this entity, the fiscal registers registered a turnover of as much as 346 million BAM, which is a record amount in one day.

For the sake of comparison, seven days earlier, on November 17th, turnover in FBiH amounted to 191 million BAM. Also, a month earlier, on October 27th, to be precise, turnover in FBiH amounted to 216 million BAM, which means that the citizens of FBiH shopped more on Black Friday.

As they confirmed from the Tax Administration of FBiH, last year, on November 25th, a turnover of only 54 million BAM was recorded, but it should be taken into account that on that day BiH Statehood Day was celebrated and that many shops and shopping centers were closed. But that’s why the day before, on November 24th, 2022, a turnover of 216 million BAM was recorded, and the day after last year’s Statehood Day (November 26th, 2022), the turnover in FBiH amounted to 83 million BAM.

For this year’s Black Friday, a turnover of slightly more than 27 million BAM was recorded in stores in the RS, which is about seven million BAM less than last year.

“Total recorded turnover through fiscal cash registers in retail sales in the RS, on November 24th, 2023, amounted to 27.032.728 BAM, while on November 25th last year, it amounted to 34.400.913 BAM,” said the Tax Administration of the RS.

It should be recalled that Black Friday is celebrated on the last Friday in November and is especially popular in the United States (U.S.) because of the great discounts on all kinds of items – clothes, shoes, toys, household appliances, furniture, etc.

Given that it is the end of the year, this special Friday is an opportunity for traders to sell excess goods at lower prices, which is not often the case in BiH, given that many traders do not lower prices by a significant percentage, Klix.ba reports.
