Before the summit of foreign ministers, Jens Stoltenberg, at the press conference, spoke about the Western Balkans and announced that a discussion on Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)and Kosovo would take place.
The debate on NATO’s agenda comes after pressure from London to discuss Milorad Dodik’s moves.
”At the meeting of foreign ministers, on November 30th and on December 1st in Riga, we will look back at the latest developments in the Western Balkans. The region is strategically important for NATO. They have come a long way since the conflict of the 1990s, but we have recently witnessed rising tensions. In Kosovo, NATO is working with the European Union (EU) diplomats to reduce tensions at the border, and implement the recent agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, ” Jens Stoltenberg stressed.
Also, he added that BiH strongly supports a united state structure and multiethnic armed forces.
”But we are also worried about the inflammatory rhetoric from Republika Srpska (RS). That is why we will discuss NATO’s ongoing role in promoting stability and security in this region. Our colleagues from Finland and Sweden will join us at this session, as well as EU High Representative Borrell because we are stronger and more efficient when we work together. Therefore, I am looking forward to the meeting of foreign ministers in Riga, ” noted Stoltenberg.
