lambIn the village Filipovici, a few kilometers from Ustikolina, in a herd of sheep owner Mujo Cavrk strange lamb with five legs was born.

Family Cavrk, which managed to grow a whole herd in these years after their return to the village, never experienced anything like that before and they were surprised at first but they accepted the lamb and helped him.

“It has been strange at first but we decided to keep him and we tied his fifth leg with the body so that he can run. We wanted to help him. It is also good to hear what the experts say,” said Mujo Cavrk.

From the Veterinary Station in Gorazde emphasized that these kinds of cases are rare but possible. Redundancies of organs, in this case legs, may be rudimentary phenomenon, which represents more an obstacle than functional damage to the general health of the animal, as confirmed by Dr. Enver Borovina, Director of the Veterinary Station Gorazde.

“The causes are different, it can be caused by different genetic mutations, introduction of specific toxins etc. An animal can intake toxins that can cause certain effects while eating, same as for example, a woman who smokes or takes narcotic drugs or alcohol during the pregnancy, which can cause certain effects on the fetus,” emphasized Dr. Borovina.

Meat of the animal born with a fifth leg is not harmful but experts note that their experience on the field and often encounter of cases of changes in the physiognomy of the animals are the reason for additional advices to breeders.
