The mayors of five of Canada’s biggest cities accepted the initiative and put the naming of streets “Victims of Srebrenica Genocide” in procedure. The initiative is based on the rulings of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, which are the highest civilizational and legal guarantees of truth about genocide in Srebrenica. Every attempt to revise history violates international law and justice. Denial of legally verified genocide is not a freedom of speech but a criminal act.
The process of naming the streets “Srebrenica Genocide Victims” in Canada is the best and most powerful response to genocide deniers, revisionists of judicial facts, and glorifiers of convicted war criminals.
The response to the pressure and intimidation of researchers is the public and loud documentation and presentation of facts, the institutionalization of a culture of remembrance, and strategically planned lobbying for the realization of the significant Hague legacy.
To all those who continue to organize genocide denial rallies or glorify convicted war criminals such as Ratko Mladić, the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada’s message is clear: our choice is truth, justice, and a culture of remembrance. This is a time of truth and justice in which glorifiers of war criminals, genocide deniers, and revisionists of court-established facts stand no chance.
