The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bisera Turkovic, stated that the strong support of the President of the USA, Joseph Biden, for the entry of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the countries of the Western Balkans into the European Union.

She pointed out that this was the message we had hoped for ahead of the important EU-Western Balkans summit.

“The role of the United States in this part of the world and in Europe is vital for peace and security,” Turkovic said.

“A clear European future and US support are the only way to permanently stabilize the region, put it on the tracks of irreversible progress and resist Russia’s increasingly destabilizing influence,” the BiH foreign minister added.

The leaders of the EU member states gathered yesterday evening on Brdo near Kranj for an informal dinner, ahead of the EU-Western Balkans summit, but the main topics they will discuss during the meetings will be on the agenda of the European Council meeting on October 21st and 22nd.

The EU-Western Balkans meeting will be chaired by EU Council President Charles Michel, who will represent the EU together with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

As announced by the European Commission, the summit will consist of a plenary session, followed by a session of EU and regional leaders. Topics such as reaffirming the European perspective of the Western Balkans, which is said to be in the common strategic interest and is a common strategic choice, will prevail at the session.

The leaders will discuss the development of cooperation and the socio-economic recovery of the region in the context of the current coronary virus pandemic.
