GOOD DAY’S WORK has been warmly received by moviegoers who attended two screenings of the film in the official competition program of the 23rd edition of Asia’s biggest film festival in Busan, South Korea.
Martin Turk’s film GOOD DAY’S WORK, produced by Sarajevo-based Obala Art Center, had an exceptionally successful international premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea and is one of ten films vying for the Festival’s Flash Forward Audience Award.
GOOD DAY’S WORK was screened twice in the official program of the 23rd Busan Film Festival and was well received by members of the audience who also showed great interest for after-screening discussions with writer-director Martin Turk and producer Jovan Marjanovic. A third screening of the film was also organized at Busan for media and film industry representatives.
“We had a great experience at the Busan Film Festival. It is a very big and prestigious festival that draws audiences who cherish high-quality cinema. Even just the fact that the film was selected for the festival was a great success for us and positive reviews after the festival screenings only added to my happiness,” Turk said after the screenings at Busan.
GOOD DAY’S WORK follows a few days in the life of Armin (Aleksandar Seksan) and his family. While Armin searches for a job, everything that can go wrong does. In its review of the film after the Busan premiere, the leading global film magazine Screen International noted that “the movie’s fortunes should prove brighter than its protagonist’s.” “Jumping from its Sarajevo Film Festival premiere to an international bow in Busan, GOOD DAY’S WORK is a solid fit for further festival play,” it added.
After Busan, GOOD DAY’S WORK is already on the way to Montpellier in France where it will be screened in the competition program of the 40th Mediterranean Film Festival, CINEMED, held October 19-27. “Good Day’s Work” will have two screenings there, one each on October 21st and 24th.
The cast of the film includes celebrated Bosnian actors and actresses such as Aleksandar Seksan, Maja Zeco, Senad Alihodzic, Ermin Sijamija, Mladen Nelevic, Muhamed Hadzovic, Adijan Kulovac, Vanesa Glodjo, Jasna Zalica, Ejla Bavcic and others. The film was shot by the celebrated Croatian cinematographer and music video director Jovan Gonzo, while Emina Kujundžić is credited with costume and set design.
Over 30 short films produced within the Sarajevo City of Film production scheme, launched in 2007, achieved notable success on the film festival circuit. The first feature film produced through the scheme, BRIDGES OF SARAJEVO, premiered in the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival.
In continuation of that successful endeavor, the Sarajevo Film Festival and Turkish national broadcaster TRT launched in 2016 a feature film production initiative named Sarajevo City of Film for Global Screen. Turk’s sophomore feature “Good Day’s Work”, a Bosnian-Turkish-Slovenian coproduction, was realized as part of the initiative.
