The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has received a criminal complaint against Milorad Dodik, the President of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), because, as a guest on a TV show, he glorified Ratko Mladić, convicted of genocide and other war crimes, as confirmed to Detektor.
The report against Dodik was issued by Emir Suljagić, Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
“The case is ongoing, and the allegations in the complaint are being verified,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated.
During a guest appearance on a television show, Dodik said that Mladić was the “Commander-in-Chief of the Army of Republika Srpska, a national hero of these people,” and boasted that he, as a defense witness, testified in The Hague in procedures against Mladić and Radovan Karadžić, the first President of Republika Srpska, convicted of genocide in Srebrenica and other crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska, Mladić, was sentenced to the same punishment for genocide and other crimes.
Detektor previously reported that legal experts and victims consider that Dodik’s TV appearance must be subject to prosecution.
The former High Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Valentin Inzko, imposed amendments to the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which prohibit and punish glorifying war criminals. The amendments to the law prescribe, among other things, that awarding recognition, awards, certificates of appreciation, any kind of memento, or any privilege to a person convicted under a final verdict for genocide, crimes against humanity, or war crimes, shall be punished by a prison sentence of at least three years.
