A suspect in the murder of four people in Tennessee in the United States has died after being shot while fleeing, police said, adding that the killings were related to domestic violence.

Officers found Mavis Christian Jr., 52, in his car during a search after a three-location shooting in Memphis that left three women and a teenage girl dead and another teenage girl critically wounded.

Officers with the Memphis Police Department responded to a report of a shooting Saturday evening. Police found a woman with an apparent gunshot wound at the scene and pronounced her dead.

Investigators have determined that there have been more violent related shootings with fatal outcomes, Radio Free Europe reports.

A woman and a 13-year-old girl were killed and a 15-year-old girl was seriously injured in Field Lark Drive. Another woman was found shot to death on Warrington Street, Memphis Police Officer Christopher Williams said.

Police believed Christian was responsible for all three shootings and began a manhunt involving local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Each shooting is believed to be a case of domestic violence, police said.
