Swedish Customs confiscated over 1.4 Tons of Cocaine

Swedish customs have made one of the country’s biggest cocaine seizures after seizing around 1.4 tons of the drug last week at a port near Stockholm, an official told Swedish television.

“It’s one of the biggest seizures ever made,” Stefan Granath of Swedish Customs told broadcaster SVT, adding that the exact amount was still awaited.

The drugs were discovered in a container in the port of Nynashamn, south of Stockholm, on April 18, Granath said.

Six men were arrested on suspicion of taking part in his transport.

Granath said that the drugs were probably destined for the European market and that Sweden was only a transit country.

“Just five to 10 years ago, it was very unusual to seize only 100 kilograms,” Granath said.

The amount of cocaine seized by Swedish customs peaked in 2022, when, according to official data, 822 kilograms were seized. This is more than 300 kilograms more than the previous record set in 2018, AA writes.
