Ten patients died as a result of severe acute respiratory infections in Republika Srpska, from 1st  to 3rd  February this year, it was confirmed today by the Public Health Institute of RS.

The University Clinical Center of the RS reported five, and the hospital in Doboj, Bijeljina, East Sarajevo, Trebinje and the Sokolac Psychiatric Hospital reported one deceased patient.

Namely, the deceased were severe chronic patients and have already been hospitalized for treating illnesses, according to a statement from the Institute. From January 21st until today, a total of 26 persons died of influenza.

The Institute reminds that it is necessary to apply the measures of personal and especially respiratory hygiene, as well as the hygiene of the area where persons live and work, and that the recommendations of the competent institutions are respected at home and in hospitals.

“In case of higher body temperature, it is the best to take a rest, intake plenty of liquids, use some nose drops, pastilles, and to lower the temperature, of course,” said Zakira Pasic, a specialist in urgent medicine.

Ventilation of rooms, regularly washing your hands and avoiding contacts and large meeting, are some of the alternative recommendations.

Although deaths caused a large disturbance in the public, doctors say that – there is no place for panic, we are at the peak of the flu season.
