researchRegional Museum of Visoko started with test archaeological excavations at the medieval fortress Cajangrad, on the area of the local community Gracanica.

Four test probes were open, and team from the field stated that a fortress of defensive character is located on this site.

Leader of archaeological research, Adisa Lepic, said that on the basis of materials that are found including nails, medieval and Ottoman ceramics, they came to the conclusion that the fort was made in the 14th or 15th century.

“Some of the most important battles in the period when Bosnia fell under the Ottoman rule most likely took place here,” said Lepic.

She explained that Cajangrad was the city that served for defensive purposes, to inform the medieval towns of Visoko and Bobovac in case of an attack.

Lepic said that one part of the fortress was visible before the research, and that they aim now to examine the entire fort. She said that the research will be continued in the spring.

Regional Museum of Visoko implemented project together with the Madrasa “Osman ef. Redzovic”, which partly financed the project.
