In Stari Brod near Visegrad, the 81st anniversary of the martyrdom of more than 6.000 Serbs of the Sarajevo-Romanija region who were killed by the Ustashas was marked.

At the commemoration, it was said that this suffering must not be forgotten and that the memory of the victims of this crime must be passed on to the younger generations.

The commemoration was attended by the mayors of the municipalities of Visegrad Mladen Djurevic, Rogatica Milorad Jagodic, Sokolac Milovan Bjelica, Novo Gorazde Mila Petkovic, Pale Bosko Jugovic, and representatives of municipalities Rudo, Han Pijesak and Foca.

During the Ustasha offensive, more than 6.000 Serbs from the areas of Sarajevo, Sokolac, Olovo, Kladanj, Rogatica, Han Pijesak, and Visegrad were killed, who tried to cross the Drina River and seek salvation in Serbia. Several people drowned in the Drina River, fleeing from the Ustashas.

The biggest mass killing took place on March 22nd, 1942, but the killings continued until the beginning of May 1942.

A memorial museum for the victims was built in Stari Brod.
