The Americans warned in the UN: The stability of BiH is crucial for peace in Europe

The American representative in the United Nations Security Council said that the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina is crucial for peace on the European continent.

“The stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina is key to ensuring peace and security in Europe,” warned the American ambassador at the beginning of his presentation.

He believes that the High Representative and the OHR are crucial for ensuring the functioning of key institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The High Representative and the OHR have the full support of the Council, the international community and the USA. We support the use of Bonn powers until the 5+2 program is implemented. This is complementary to the process of joining the European Union,” he said.

He pointed out that BiH faces numerous challenges, including secessionist activities.

“Dodik is especially trying to undermine state institutions, he regularly calls for the dissolution of the state. His dangerous actions threaten peace and stability in the region. Denying genocide also prevents reconciliation. It is a historical fact that genocide was committed in Srebrenica,” said the American representative.

He stressed that the US will continue to use sanctions.

“Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina want a democratic and peaceful future. This Council should support them in that sense,” he said.

The representative of Great Britain said that the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina should choose their future.

“We support the government’s ambitions on the European path. The opening of negotiations is very important. I hope that it will be an incentive for key actors in BiH to work on reforms… The biggest threat to the future lies in the efforts of some politicians in the RS to undermine the state and its institutions “The High Representative continues to play a key role in supporting the Dayton Agreement,” he said.

Today’s session of the UN Security Council was held in connection with the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it discussed the report of the High Representative Christian Schmidt, who analyzed the political events in the country.

Strong messages during the session were sent by the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, who warned against the actions of the authorities of Republika Srpska, which do not respect the decisions of international courts regarding the genocide committed in Srebrenica.

Representatives of the neighboring countries, Serbia and Croatia, also spoke at the UN Security Council session.

The representative of China at the UN also addressed the audience, calling the appointment of Christian Schmidt as high representative controversial. Additionally, he opposed the adoption of the resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica, which the UN General Assembly will consider on May 23, Klix.ba writes.
