The average Salary covers only 46.02 percent of the consumer Basket

The trade union consumer basket calculated by the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the month of June 2024 is 2,964.10 BAM.

The average salary paid in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the month of April 2024 was 1,364 BAM (the latest data published by the Federal Bureau of Statistics). The minimum wage according to the FBiH Government Decision is 619 BAM. Coverage of the union consumer basket by the average salary is 46.02 percent. Coverage of the Trade Union Consumer Basket by the minimum wage is 20.88 percent.

When preparing the Trade Union Consumer Basket, the average salary paid in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was taken into account, as well as the minimum living expenses of a four-member family consisting of two adults and two children, one of whom is in high school and the other in elementary school.

The consumer basket itself consists of the following categories (next to the name is the percentage of participation of each category in the union consumer basket): food – 43.76 percent, housing and communal services – 13.20 percent, hygiene and health maintenance – 8.69 percent, education and culture – 10.79 percent, clothing and footwear – 12.15 percent, transportation – 4.66 percent, household maintenance – 6.75 percent.

In the food category, prices from three shopping centers were used for 86 items. When it comes to hygiene and health maintenance, the expenses for ten items were counted, and for housing and communal services, expenses for six items, it was announced from the Information Service of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of BiH.
