Pecina-Govjestica-Rogatica1The cave Govještica or – as the locals call it – Dugovještica is 21 kilometers away from the center of the municipality Rogatica, located in the canyon of the lake Prača, where is the entrance of  the cave, 9682 meters long and is still in the research phase.

The Director of Rogatica Tourism Organization Nebojša Golić stated that Govještica is being researched since 2010, and this year cave researchers from Italy, Mostar, Banja Luka, Sarajevo and other places have joined the usual group of researchers.

Inside the cave is the lake, 15 meters wide, and the water depth is about two meters, and that is a problem that researcher have to overcome. Italian cave researchers during 2011 and 2012 entered in the depth of Govještica and passed 7.600 meters. This year, the researchers have discovered another two kilometers of cave channel.

According to unofficial information, the Italian researchers should come next year as well, and they believed that this cave is more than 10.000 meters long! Inside the cave is a “hall” of a football field size- a hundred meter long and fifty meters wide.

Govještica is full of cave ornaments, stalactites and stalagmites, crystals and many others.
