Motorway Sections in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Open in 2026

A representative in the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Admir Čavalić, shared the response to a parliamentary question addressed to Motorways of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Čavalić’s question concerns the current status of motorway construction in this entity, and the response highlights several sections that, according to Motorways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, could open in 2026.

The sections include: the Putnikovo Brdo 2 Tunnel – Medakovosubsection, which stretches from the Usora interchange to the end of the section in Medakovo, with a total length of 7.2 km; Medakovo – Ozimica, the entire section to the Ozimicainterchange, 21.6 km long; the remaining section Ponirak–Vraca (Zenica Tunnel), 3.4 km long; and the rest of the AC Zenica Tunnel – Donja Gračanica section, known as the Northern Section, which stretches from the Zenica Tunnel to the Zenica North interchange, 0.65 km long.

Regarding the concrete timeframe, the sections Medakovo-Ozimica, Nemila-Vranduk, Vranduk-Ponirak, and Zenica Tunnel-Donja Gračanica will open upon completion of the current construction season. The section Putnikovo Brdo 2–Medakovo will open after the technical assessment, while Ponirak–Vraca (the Zenica Tunnel) will open when the sections on the Zenica North interchange–Nemila stretch open.

As stated in the agreement, the opening of an additional 40 km of motorway on the 5C Corridor is expected by the end of the year.

“The opening is conditioned by mandatory financial monitoring of the construction. This is particularly important considering that in the last couple of years there has been global instability and a general increase in costs, which directly affects the unit price due to rising prices of materials, labor, fuel, equipment, and other resources involved in construction costs. These are calculated at construction sites through a mechanism known as ‘sliding scales,’” responded Motorways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
