A visit marked by solidarity, compassion and support for those affected by the tragic helicopter accident. In the wake of the tragic helicopter accident that claimed four lives and left 11 people injured, Italian Minister of Defence Mr. Guido Crosetto, accompanied by Chief of Defence General Luciano Portolano and an Italian medical team, visited Bosnia and Herzegovina to be with the injured personnel receiving medical treatment.
Upon arrival at Tuzla International Airport, the delegation was welcomed by the Commander of EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, the Italian Ambassador in BiH H.E. Sarah Eti Castellani, Minister of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr Zukan Helez and the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lieutenant General Gojko Knežević.
The delegation subsequently visited Brčko Hospital and Tuzla Hospital, where they met with the injured personnel and medical teams providing their care. The visits offered an opportunity to receive updates on their recovery and, above all, to show personal support to those facing a difficult period following the tragedy.
Four lives have been lost, leaving families, friends and colleagues to face a loss that words cannot ease. EUFOR extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who died. Our thoughts are also with the injured personnel, wishing them strength and a full recovery, and with all those affected by this painful event.
The visit reflects the solidarity that connects military personnel across nations and the shared commitment to caring for those who serve. It also highlights the close cooperation between the defence institutions of Italy and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the dedication of the medical professionals working tirelessly to support the injured.
In moments such as these, solidarity is more than a gesture. It is being present, standing beside one another and ensuring that no one has to face difficult moments alone.
EUFOR stands with its Italian colleagues and their families during this time of profound sorrow.
