The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the proposal of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, adopted the Plan for Demining in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the year 2026, which was drawn up by the Center for Demining of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to the estimates made in January 2026, the area suspected of being dangerous for mines in BiH amounted to 774.69 km², which represents 1.51 percent of the total area of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Plan for Demining in Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2026 includes the following basic goals: reduction of the suspected dangerous area, removal of mines and explosive devices left over from the war in order to prevent accidents and safe use of the area for the population, and reduction of the number of residents who are exposed to direct risk. The planned reduction of the suspected dangerous area in 2026 is 75 km².

The focus of anti-mine actions will continue to be the threatened local communities. The reduction of mine risk and their socio-economic impact will be addressed through an integrated approach to mine action and through the concept of “returning land by forming mine suspected areas (MSA)”, with the aim of eliminating the risk or reducing it to an acceptable level, all in order to create conditions for the use of certain resources, and enable reconstruction and sustainable return, the Council of Ministers of BiH announced.
