The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina did not make a decision to declare a Day of Mourning due to the devastating floods and landslides that hit parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which at least 20 people died.

As it was announced, at the extraordinary telephone session there was no quorum for work and decision-making to make a decision on declaring October 8, 2024 as a day of mourning in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

There were seven votes for the decision, while three members of the BiH Council of Ministers did not vote.

Earlier today, in the Republic of Srpska on October 8. it was declared a Day of Mourning, while the Government of the Federation has not yet made that decision.

Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić said last weekend that he would send a request to the Council of Ministers to declare a Day of Mourning in BiH, which was done.

Nikšić then stated that there is no need for the entities to declare the Day of Mourning separately, but that it should be declared throughout the country, but that, if this does not happen, the Federal Government will make a decision about it.

According to data from the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, the search for nine people is still ongoing, five in Jablanica, four in Konjic.

In addition to human victims, the floods caused enormous material damage, and aid to the flooded parts of BiH was sent from the countries of the region, the European Union, Turkey…
