The Decision of the Government of Republika Srpska on the Price of Bread entered into Force

As of today, the price of 600 grams of bread made from TIP 500 flour cannot officially exceed 1.9 BAM per piece, because the decision of the Government of the Republika Srpska to limit the price of this type of bread came into force.

As the Ministry of Trade and Tourism pointed out for “Nezavisne novine“, the decision was published in the Official Gazette of Republika Srpska on March 12, and it came into force eight days after its publication.

“According to information from the field, companies in the Republika Srpska have already adjusted the prices to the prescribed ones after publishing the information that the decision in question has been adopted,” claim the competent ministry.

We remind you that representatives of the milling and baking sector and the Minister of Trade and Tourism of the RS Denis Šulić sat at the negotiating table on several occasions, however, they failed to reach a common agreement at those meetings.

Thus, after the failed negotiations, the minister said that the competent ministry would propose the price of bread and the way to solve the problem, which was done.

Goran Grabovac, president of the Association of Bakers of the Banjaluka region at the RS Chamber of Commerce, pointed out at the time that the price of bread of 1.9 BAM was unacceptable.

“Last time, they gave us seven days to make a statement, but that’s a short period. It’s a form of blackmail. I personally suggested that we bakers will put our resources into the government opening our own bakery. At the regional level, five bakeries is quite enough. We don’t need to make a hundred products, two or three breads, let them call it social bread, let them take over all the burden and all the costs, and we have nothing against it, and we will be part of that campaign,” said Grabovac earlier.
