In only two months inspectors from the Department for Food and Veterinary EU shall assess the B&H control system for food safety and they will make the final decision whether B&H can export milk to the EU, announced in Sarajevo the Director of the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) in B&H David Barth.
Barth, together with the Director of the Swedish Development Agency (Sida) in B&H Pelle Persson and with the Director of the Czech Development Agency in Prague Michal Kalpan, and with other partners such as Department of Veterinary of B&H and Foreign Trade Chamber of B&H presented the progress achieved in the first year of the implementation of the activities for capacity building of vet laboratories and inspections in B&H in order to get closer to EU standards.
It is assumed that B&H exports milk and dairy products in the amount of 90 million BAM during a year, of which 43 million BAM are exported to Croatia. Barth pointed out that 20.000 farmers and milk producers depend on that production and export.
“USAID, Czech development agency and Sida will be with farmers in the next two months to ensure the successful completion of the protocol and to receive the certificate “, stated Barth.
