The EU Is at BiH’s Doorstep

Tonči Staničić 4Croatian accession to the EU is as significant for Croatia as it is for BiH, for both entities, for all people and for all its citizens.

The distant borders of the EU are now at the border of BiH, and this is a chance that is impossible to not use, said the Ambassador of Croatia to BiH for ‘Nezavisne Novine’.

He said that the path of Euro Atlantic integration is the only logical path for BiH.

“The doors of the EU are now at the doors of BiH. It is up to BiH authorities to decide how and when to open their doors to the European courtyard. It is certain that from 1 July, the doors of the EU are at BiH’s doorstep, and that in Brussels there will be a clearer picture in what measure BIH society shares European standards and values. The Europeanization of the entire region frees us all of the burden of the unfinished past, and Croatia’s accession to the EU is important for BiH. Everyone who is seriously involved in politics understands that Croatia and BiH are connected at many levels, and the success of Croatia in the EU is measured by how fast its neighbors continue the process of integration. For both countries, this is an outstanding opportunity that should be used because it is the most important political and economic partner of BIH that is entering the EU’’, said Ambassador Staničić.

On the question of journalists on what Croatia’s accession means to the citizens in BiH, and what it means for Croatia, Ambassador Staničić said that for both it means a better future.

“On a personal level, for citizens of Croatia it means an improvement of their lives. For all of us, it is a huge success and proof to Brussels that we share European standards and that we are a part of Europe. And BiH is a part of Europe and has to be in the EU. It is up to the politicians to establish and to prove that, and to the international community to help. I hope that BiH citizens will not wait long to become a full EU member’’, said the Croatian Ambassador to BiH.
