The enchanting ambiance of Pašina Tabija in the historic town of Počitelj came alive on Friday, 28 June with the sounds of traditional music – sevdalinka, performed by the Bosnia and Herzegovina’s diva Amira Medunjanin, accompanied by outstanding artists musicians Mustafa Šantić and Nermin Čerkez.

The concert was organised by the Office of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina aiming to promote the rich musical tradition as well as the cultural heritage and historic significance of Počitelj for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Europe. The host of the event was Ambassador Johann Sattler, the Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina who underscored the commitment of the European Union to initiatives that promote tourism, art and creative industries across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“It is a great pleasure that the European Union could organize a concert to bring attention to Počitelj – a truly remarkable and stunning place. Počitelj, with its rich history and cultural significance, was an ideal location for last night’s event that sought to foster unity and celebrate the cultural diversity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Europe. Last night, Počitelj came to life through the stunning performance of Amira Medunjanin, who never fails to showcase the region’s unique sounds through her masterful renditions of “sevdalinke.” While last night’s event celebrated Počitelj’s historic value, it also highlighted our shared heritage and the richness of European culture that connects us all. I am glad that the European Union can support Počitelj with two new projects that seek to improve the living conditions of its residents”, said Ambassador Sattler.

Despite its beauty and significance, Počitelj’s historical landmarks have suffered from decades of neglect, damaging some of the region’s most impressive sites. A concert was held in Počitelj to highlight the urgent need for the renovation, preservation, and restoration of this unique medieval town.

The European Union is currently financing two projects in Počitelj worth 50,000 euros, related to the installation of street lighting and the renovation of the playground, which will improve the safety and quality of life of the local community.

The concert at Pašina Tabija not only highlighted the beauty of traditional BiH music but also served as a reminder of the importance of preserving cultural landmarks. The EU’s ongoing support for Počitelj is a testament to its broader commitment to nurturing cultural heritage and fostering a sense of community and belonging across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
