The Euroleague is changing the Rules of the Game for this Season

The Euroleague international club basketball competition announced today a change in the rules of the game, which will come into effect from the beginning of this season.

The parts of the game that can be reviewed by video inspection include the “over the half court” rule, which implies that the attacking team must not return the ball to their own half after the ball has already passed into the opponent’s half.

Coaches will be able to challenge this rule at any moment of the game, while the referees themselves will be able to check whether or not a violation of this rule occurred in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter, and the last two minutes of overtime.

Also, if one team commits a passing foul in their own half, the other team will field the ball in their own half with 24 seconds to play. If one team commits the same foul in the opponent’s half, the other team will move the ball into their half with 14 seconds to play.

Another new rule is that a defender is considered outside the defensive half-circle if his foot is raised above the half-circle line. An offensive foul cannot be called on a player in the defensive half circle.

Euroleague adapted these two rules to FIBA rules.

The next Euroleague season starts on October 3 this year, Beta writes.
