The European Council decided today to allocate five billion euros for the funds from which military aid to Ukraine is financed, it was announced on the EU website.
The announcement states that military support to Kyiv will be financed through the European Peace Fund and the new Fund for Aid to Ukraine.
The High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borelj, said that “the EU fulfills its obligations”.
The newly established Fund for Assistance to Ukraine will enable the Union to continue to support the growing needs of the Ukrainian armed forces through the provision of lethal and non-lethal military equipment and training, the statement added.
Special attention will be given to providing greater and better operational support to Ukraine, in order to complement the bilateral efforts of EU members and with a focus on the increased volume of joint procurements from the European and Norwegian defense industry, according to the announcement from Brussels.
