The Kremlin Says No Date Has Been Set For New Negotiations On Ukraine

The Kremlin has again rejected the requests of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his Western allies to conduct swift peace negotiations with President Vladimir Putin, and his spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday presented other priorities.

Putin is going on a visit to China, and at the same time preparing for the economic forum in Vladivostok, said Peskov.

Putin will stay in China from August 31st to September 3rd, and then he will travel to the Russian Far East for the economic forum.

Peskov confirmed that there had been constant contacts between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators from previous meetings in Istanbul. But he added that no date has been set for the continuation of those talks.

Putin’s spokesman did not speak about a possible meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy, which was announced by the United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump and welcomed by allies.

Peskov also refused to comment on the multitude of statements about a possible solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

As for future security guarantees for Ukraine, which are being discussed in Europe, Peskov only said that this is one of the most important issues. He repeated that Russia will not accept the presence of soldiers from NATO member states in Ukraine.

When journalists asked him what Russia would be ready to agree to, Peskov said that this should not be the subject of public discussion, adding that it is too early to discuss the details of a solution.

“Work should not be conducted publicly – only in this way can a result be achieved,” said Peskov, again praising Trump’s peace efforts.
