The Kremlin warns that European Capitals are ‘potential Victims’ if the U.S. deploys Missiles

European countries would put themselves in danger if they accepted the deployment of long-range American missiles, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a video released on Saturday, July 13th.

When Russian state TV journalist Pavel Zarubin asked him about the possibility of deploying the United States (U.S.)supersonic missiles in Europe, Peskov said: “We have enough potential to deter these missiles. But the capitals of these [European] countries are potential victims.”

Peskov recalled that during the Cold War, American missiles based in Europe were aimed at Russia, while Russian missiles were in turn aimed at Europe, making European states the biggest victims of any potential conflict.

“Europe is now coming apart at the seams. This is not the best time for Europe. So, one way or another, history will repeat itself,” said Peskov.

The U.S. announced on Wednesday that it will deploy weapons in Germany starting in 2026 that will allow strikes at a greater distance than the American systems deployed in Europe so far.

On Thursday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz defended that decision, while fears of a new arms race are growing in Germany after a difficult experience during the Cold War.

“It means deterrence and guarantees peace, it is an important and necessary decision, made at a good time,” said Scholz on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington.

The Kremlin previously assessed that this represents a step towards the Cold War and direct participation in the war in Ukraine, RSE writes.
